Context and Objectives

The CNM line – the Nîmes and Montpellier rail bypass – entered service in December 2017 and is operated under a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement. The contract covers the construction of the line as well as infrastructure maintenance for the subsequent 20 years (2018-2037).

This assignment is part of the phased preparation for the end of the concession in 2037; it aims to equip Oc’via Maintenance with methods and tools to objectively determine the best asset strategies to adopt in order to meet the needs of the various stakeholders.

President Oc’Via Maintenance: “IMDM is a well-known and respected player in railway asset management. It was important for us to have professional support for this process – working with industry experts capable of challenging models and who have proven their methods through collaborations with partners, peers and clients.”

Approach and Results

The assignment is structured around the provision of consulting services and access to Eqylibr®, with the aim of:

  • Accelerating the launch of the initiative through IMDM’s support during 2025;
  • Gradually handing over modelling responsibilities to Oc’via Maintenance personnel.

Specifically, the assignment entails:

  • Modelling the CNM line infrastructure across all technical domains (track, civil engineering, signalling, power supply, telecommunications and buildings);
  • Defining and developing target indicators to guide asset management;
  • Producing asset management plans for each technical domain;
  • Providing access to and training on the Eqylibr® simulation platform developed by IMDM.

Key figures:

Over a six-month period, developed the investment trajectory and formalised deliverables for all technical domains, based on the client’s asset inventory.

"The approach is structured and methodical. Naturally, it entails an internal commitment and the prior collection of input data regarding the assets. Breaking the project down by subsystem made it possible to sequence data integration and optimise deliverables throughout the process. Following the creation of the overall summary, the training provided enables us to master the features of the Eqylibr tool and model various asset management plan scenarios."
Nicolas DARBO, President, Oc’Via Maintenance
